I am excited to be a Thomas County Central Yellow Jacket! I previously worked at Islands High School in Savannah, Georgia. I ended up moving to Savannah when my husband accepted a job at the STEM Academy. Both myself and my husband have always loved working with students and so we both decided to pursue a career in education.
I attended Georgia College & State University where I declared my Major in Mathematics. While studying for my BS in Mathematics I had a Teaching Concentration where I focused on how to teach mathematics in a classroom. I love learning the different methods that can be used to effectively teach students different mathematical concepts. Through my concentration on teaching I decided to go on a Study Abroad trip to London, England. During this study abroad I was able to work in Queensmill School for Autism with the wonderful Blue Class. I spent several days with my Host Teacher working with 8-10 year old boys with autism. I learned so much through observing and interacting with these students and their teachers on how to differentiate lessons and the use of manipulatives in creative ways for teaching mathematics. My experiences with teaching in London and Math Education Courses led me to the decision to get a Masters in Education after graduating with my BS in Mathematics. I now have a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in Secondary Education (grades 6-12) for Mathematics and am AP certified for AP Statistics. I have now been teaching high school mathematics for 6 years. I enjoy fostering a classroom environment of respect and fun while helping students to develop their own love of mathematics. I hope to be able to continue to work with students and to help them grow a passion for mathematics during their school career. |
